As the Caledonian Mercury reported earlier this year, the recycling company, Redeem, is one of the fastest growing businesses not just in Scotland but in the UK. It was named as one of the top 50 in this year’s Sunday Times ‘fast track’ list; and it also hit the top spot in the Chartered Institute of Waste Management’s Fast 30 list, up from 6th last year.
While the public think of this industry as “recycling”, the business itself describes the process as “re-commerce” – taking equipment that the “must have” generation have moved on from, testing it and stripping off any data ready to sell it on to those who don’t need to own the newest handsets.
