A great location for canoes and kayaks
A recent poll ran as part of a competition by Sitons (a leading online magazine for sit on top kayaks) has found Scotland to be the home of three of the UK’s top ten dream kayaking locations, as well as in the top 10 worldwide locations. The poll was taken as part of a December competition for watersport fanatics to win a GoPro Hero II camera. Entrants were asked where would be their dream place to kayak.
The Scottish Lochs, Outer Hebrides and Shetlands were all found to be among the top 10 UK locations mentioned across the 500 results. The rest of the UK top ten was made up of 2 Cumbria locations, 2 Cornish locations, Devon, Dorset and Pembrokeshire. Scotland also made 9th place in the worldwide kayaking regions mentioned, featuring alongside the likes of Alaska, the Canada Rockies and the Barrier Reef.

“The demand for siton top kayaks has grown over the last few years, because launching yourself down rocky waterfalls isn’t for everyone. With a siton, anyone can learn the basics of kayaking and have fun in the water within minutes without the need for having to be ‘extreme’. They’re also safer than closed cockpit models if you capsize and durable to boot.
“Watersports have always played a big part in boosting UK tourism, especially in coastal areas through the summer. With events like Paddle Round The Pier in Brighton growing every year, it’s evident that more and more people are looking to the water to have some fun.”
