Commenting as Labour launched their manifesto yesterday, Liberal Democrat campaign chair George Lyon said:
“It was the Labour party’s failure in Government that caused youth unemployment to soar. Scots will not give them a second chance to make the same mistakes again.
“Governments don’t create jobs, the private sector does. Labour’s fantasy wish list of unbelievable jobs numbers is no substitute for a proper plan that creates the conditions for economic growth.
“Their only big idea is to lock up 4,000 more people every year in already overcrowded prisons. But nowhere in their manifesto does it say how they will find the money to build the four new Barlinnies needed to house them all.
“And with Labour’s plans to centralise Scotland’s police there will be at least 3,000 fewer officers on the streets to catch them.
“Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott is campaigning against Labour’s plans to centralise Scotland’s police in Aberdeen today. Only the Liberal Democrats have the solutions to keep Scotland’s streets safe.”
Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott joined local campaigner and candidate for Aberdeen South John Sleigh at Nigg police station.
Commenting after the visit, Tavish Scott said:
"Grampian's chief constable says centralisation could cost 400 jobs in the North East. If Labour, the SNP and the Tories got their way, there would be 3000 fewer police officers on the streets across Scotland.
"Only the Liberal Democrats are standing up for local policing."
Meanwhile, commenting on the news that Clostridium difficile infection rates in those aged 65 and over have fallen by 37 per cent in the last year, Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Ross Finnie said:
"It is encouraging that C.Diff infection rates amongst those aged 65 or over have fallen in the last year but there is absolutely no time for complacency.
“Scottish Liberal Democrat plans, published in our manifesto yesterday, will ensure hospitals have to abide by scrupulous standards of cleanliness. This will continue to drive down hospital borne infections rates in Scotland."
