The government may like to boast about how far Scotland has moved into the digital age. But this country faces a number of critical problems.
The penetration of high-quality broadband is a major issue, even in cities such as Edinburgh. There has been a reluctance on the part of some industries to grasp the digital opportunities, remaining stuck with websites that act only as electronic business cards instead of trading platforms.
The low take-up of not just the internet but computing generally in parts of Glasgow put it once again near the bottom of another European league table.
However, Douglas McCabe, the media analyst at Enders Analysis, sees some signs of hope.
