Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott joined Shelia Thomson, candidate for Aberdeen Central and John Sleigh, candidate for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine on a tour of the new CLAN cancer support centre in Aberdeen.
Commenting after the visit, Mr Scott said:
“I wanted to take time on the election campaign to visit CLAN’s new Aberdeen building. This is such an important building project for the north east and the islands.
“There’s hardly a family not touched by the impact of cancer. That’s why I wanted to support the fundraising for the new building by participating in Shetland’s “Strictly Clan Dancing” that raised so much money.”
Shelia Thomson added:
“The new centre will allow CLAN to provide more services to both people with cancer and their carers. Having personally used CLAN over many years as a carer, I appreciate the value of the service. Although the old centre is a beautiful building and has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, I am sure that the staff are looking forward to providing as high a quality of service in their new purpose built centre.”
Debbie Thomson, Chief Executive of CLAN said:
“We’re delighted to welcome Tavish Scott to the new site today. He was able to see for himself the new CLAN haven, which will provide accommodation for people from Orkney, Shetland and throughout the north east of Scotland.”
Commenting elsewhere yesterday on the Scottish Liberal Democrats' plans for Scottish tourism, Tavish Scott said:
“Tourism is Scotland’s biggest industry. It creates and sustains thousands of jobs across the country.
“Our Regional Development Banks will get money into more local businesses, let down by the greedy banks. They would have responsibility for promoting their home region with a regional tourism policy.
“We would also examine rates holidays for seasonal tourist businesses to keep Scotland open all year round. Liberal Democrats have real solutions for the Scottish tourism industry.”

Commenting as police officers in Scotland urge a rethink on how knife crime is dealt with, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown said: “The failed populist policies and slogans of the Labour party will not stop knife crime in Scotland. “A never ending carousel of jail time will not end it either. 90 per cent of people jailed for knife crime have already been in prison. Prison is not a deterrent for most offenders. “We need real solutions for tackling knife crime in Scotland. Liberal Democrats will tackle gang culture in Scotland and build on the strong anti-violence work in Strathclyde that has cut violent crime by more than 46%. “These are solutions that will last.”Related posts:
