The Scottish Borders is an area which has gone out of its way to attract cyclists of all ages and levels of ability. Much of this is a direct result of Scotland’s “open access to the countryside" legislation. The Forestry Commission in particular has worked hard, opening up its land and creating thrilling cycle tracks through some of its most attractive woodlands.
Collectively, the southern Scotland routes are known as 7Stanes, a series of mountain biking centres stretching from Glentress near Peebles to Glentrool in Galloway. This coming week, Glentress will host TweedLove – a festival of cycling unique in the UK.
