The culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt, is touring the UK to tell people about his dream of a network of hyper-local TV stations around the country. He has already announced that there could be almost 70 of these stations in place by the end of next year.
Mr Hunt says that, while they can broadcast in the traditional way, the stations could also take advantage of other methods of delivery, including satellite, cable and broadband. He also believes that the main obstacle to their viability – set-up and licensing costs – had been overcome.
