Dear reader, When we asked for donations, it was so we could improve The Caledonian Mercury. Thank you to all of those who have helped so far. Thanks to your generosity we’ve been able to introduce a new comment system. User comments are incredibly important to us. The core purpose of our online newspaper is to allow Scotland’s many voices to be heard. Many of you have contacted me over the past year to suggest improvements to how our comment system works. After a lot of hunting around, we have settled on (and now implemented) a system called Disqus. As with our previous system, you have to sign in to use it. But it has some very cool features: Editing comments once made Option to like/dislike comments Getting alerts when discussions updated Clearer conversation threads I hope you enjoy using the new system and, as ever, all feedback is welcome. We will be rolling out further improvements in the next few weeks. And if you do feel moved to help with the running costs of the paper, that would be wonderful. Thank you for reading, Stewart Kirkpatrick Editor, The Caledonian Mercury
