The Caledonian Mercury does not seek to be the “voice of Scotland”. Instead it is a place for all the voices of Scotland to be heard. There is no central editorial line, just a belief in independent, in-depth, intelligent journalism and discussion.
For this reason, we used the first tranche of
generous donations from our readers to improve our comments system.
Thanks to your further generosity, we are now able to introduce our
Scottish Voices forum - a unique space for intelligent discussion of Scottish current affairs - and past ones as well.
While our comment system allow our readers to discuss issues raised in our stories, the Scottish Voices will let people start discussions themselves, on topics we have not covered. As with our comment system, there are
rules of engagement, which boil down to treating the discussion and each other with respect.
The Caledonian Mercury team are justly proud of the quality of reader comments on our site and we are excited by the prospect of seeing what our users will discuss.
This is down to the generous support of all those who have donated to the paper. Thank you so much. Please do keep donating, so we can implement more improvements, such as:
- Site redesign
- More audio and video
- Scottish Politics and Heritage newsletters
- Wall-to-wall Royal Wedding coverage (Joke!)
Thank you again,
Stewart Kirkpatrick
Editor,
The Caledonian Mercury
